My son and his fiance are planning to wed in Las Vegas in November, this is both their first time and they want a relativlely low key wedding with some family and a few close friends, they have picks a chapel and then we all will be going out to dinner, as Father and Mother of the groom in this non-traditional wedding I am not sure what we are responsible for help. As you said, this wedding is rather untraditional, so "traditional" responsibilities wont necessarily apply. Having encountered similar financial responsibility inquiries from all related parties myself, I can tell you that COMMUNICATION is key. Since November is still 9 months away, I would sit down with the couple and let them know that you would love to help, but aren't sure what they are expecting. If they dont have any particular plans, or havent gotten that far yet, offer to pay for one of the extra wedding costs (i.e.,traditionally, the groom's family covers the rehearsal dinner and/or the brides wedding flowers). If these are also non-existent, think about offering to pick up the alcohol tab at the post-wedding gathering. Good luck!

Now thats what Im talking about. A good old fashion Vegas wedding. Just take whatever money you were going to put towards the wedding and let it ride on black. Whew hoo.

My cousin got married in Vegas, and his parents funded their honeymoon (the hotel stay in Vegas for 5 days), while the bride's parents bought the brides dress and gave them a substantial money gift.
