Can't agree on a wedding dress
Date: 01/11/2005 at 3:39 PM
I just got engaged 3 weeks ago. I am so excited, so naturally I've started looking for the dress. My mom has gone with me to try dresses on and I think I've tried on every dress in a 60 mile radius. I finally found THE dress!!! However, my mom doesn't like it. She keeps saying that I look better in the one that SHE likes, which is way too traditional and conservative for me...the dress just doesn't reflect my personality. We have planned on her paying for my dress, but I don't want to give into what she likes just because she's paying for it. How do I get her to understand that it's my wedding day and to let me decide what I look good and feel good in?

I understand where you are coming from, I have had some of the same problems with my parents wanting to do things their way. I felt really bad because they are helping pay for this types of things, but I have had to tell them that payment does not mean it is there day.

I would say in your case you should express that it is ultimatly your day, and I don't know your mother, but I bet she will understand that the one you want is more your style and better yet an expression of yourself.

I know parents help pay for a lot of weddings, and I know that this is common, but if you haven't thought of it, think about a gift for your mother to show your gratitude for helping out with the wedding.

I know this might be hard, and this is just my opinion, but I would say that you should pick the dress of your dreams, and not regret something on your wedding day. Hope this helps.

EXPLAIN TO MOM THAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE DRESS YOU LIKE AND THAT YOU FEEL THAT CONFIDENT IN THAT DRESS . AND ASK HER DO IF SHE WANTS YOU TO BE HAPPY OR JUST HERSELF AND EVERYONE ELSE WHILE YOUR UNCOMFORTABLE IN YOUR SKIN

I am guessing that she already had her chance for a wedding, she should know that this is your turn and it if your chance for the perfect wedding.
