I would like to have my wedding later in the evening but cannot really afford to provide a full meal at the reception, only appetizers, should I include this somewhere on my invitation. Thanks

I don't think notifying guests before a reception what to expect as far as a meal is a problem. At my reception, we decided to go with a dessert-only reception, and we placed it on the map to the reception hall, so guests knew to eat dinner before attending our wedding.

Happily married since 05/14/04.

On the invitations, you could state "Hord D'Oeuvre reception to follow" or something similar (check that spelling, because I'm not sure I got it right) I think you need to notify your guests in advance. As long as you let your guests know that they shouldn't expect a full meal, they should understand, but if you have your reception at a meal time, and don't tell people that it won't be a full meal, you can expect some upset people who leave early to go eat.

I agree with daemon that you should inform your guests especially if you plan on inviting older people and/or people with small children. These age groups tend to be more adherent to a schedule, and won't respond well to a surprise change of meal plans.

Hope I was able to help,

Kyra
