Destination Weddings are growing in popularity as the desire for novelty and unique-ness are moving higher on couples' big-day priority lists. Just as any aspect of your wedding may require much deliberation, an exciting, far-away ceremony is no doubt the biggest decision of them all. If this is a consideration for you, read on to see which factors, if any, weigh most heavily on your decision.
Diamonds
Your wedding will set itself apart.
Chances are, your wedding is not going to be the first for most of your guests. By whisking them off to an exciting new location, you are presenting them with a more than memorable experience that rivals no nuptials they've ever witnessed. To top it all off, the unique memories that you and your newly beloved have will make you cherish your special day that much more.
Destination Weddings can provide more for your guests to enjoy.
Most destination weddings take place at tourist destination spots where there are plenty of activities planned daily for your guests to take part in. While you're getting your hair and make-up done, your guests can take windsurfing lessons, go antiquing, or just soak up the sun.
Destination Weddings can be less stressful.
While the wedding planning process is inherently stressful, planning a destination wedding can almost always prove to be more low key simply because the ceremony and reception are less of a production. Locations are usually chosen for their picturesque backdrops, requiring less decorations and setup. The reception (depending on the venue) is usually outside, or in a place that facilitates large gatherings while still focusing on the present environment.
Duds
Your guest list can be cut dramatically.
If your family is large, and it means a lot to you to be surrounded by them on your big day, a destination wedding is not for you. Depending on the location; travel expenses, child care arrangements, and work schedules can all play a role in who will be able to join you.
The guests that are able to make it are on your honeymoon, too.
If you plan on having a romantic honeymoon, chances are all of your guests aren't all catching the same flight out the next day, which can kill the mood when they show up for breakfast.
Destination Weddings can have unwelcome surprises in store.
Just like any wedding, the weather poses a big threat to your dream day. But beyond that, problems such as currency conversion, extra paperwork, local laws/customs regarding marriage, and more can prevent you from becoming wed. Lastly, your dreamy locale can offer obstacles from insect migration/infestation, to unforeseen weather catastrophes (hurricanes, landslides, flash floods, El Nino, to name a few).
