Here is a general list of the primary responsibilities for the best man. Be sure to check with the groom, and maybe even the bride, before just running out and completing these tasks.
- The best man is in charge of the bachelor party. This includes any planning and hosting of the event.
- Make sure groomsmen and ushers get fitted for their tuxes.
- The best man is responsible for safe keeping of marriage license and bride's wedding ring. If needed, be available to be a witness for the marriage license.
- Make sure to plan accordingly to attend all pre-wedding functions.
- He is responsible for a toast and speech during the reception.
- The best man is in charge of getting the groom to the location, and organizing the ushers and groomsmen throughout all of the events.
- He assists the groom in the garter toss.
- He may help assist the groom with travel arrangements, and make sure the groom is packed and ready for the honeymoon.
Remember last that most often you are in charge of your own travel expenses and arrangements, attire, and accessories. Weddings are already an expensive venture for the families and grooms themselves, try to always keep that in mind. In general, your main job is to offer your moral support to the groom before and during the ceremony. This is just a general list of the main responsibilities.
