When you begin considering how to best capture your wedding memories, you may decide to hire a videographer in addition to a photographer. Hiring an experienced videographer can really bring your wedding memories to life in a special way. In fact, some couples may even choose to forgo professional photography for a professional video. With today's technology, it's possible to pull still frames from a video or add animation to help create precisely the type of video that you want. Here are some questions that you should ask any potential videographer to ensure that you get the most for your money.
- Ask to see a demo tape. Pay special attention to the quality of the film and the coverage of the events. Does the tape flow smoothly from one portion of the wedding to the next? Are fade-outs used?
- Will the videographer you are meeting with be the one actually shooting at your wedding? If not, ask to speak with who will be taping.
- Will the final copy be edited or unedited? An edited tape is ideal so only the most important moments will be included.
- Will there be music added to the final edited copy of the video? If so, will you have any choice in the selection of the music?
- Will the videographer attend the rehearsal to get a feel for the best placement of the camera?
- How does he coordinate with the photographer? Has he ever worked with your photographer before?
- Can he provide a wireless microphone for the groom to pick up sound from the vows segment of the ceremony?
- Will he have a backup camera in case of an emergency?
- Ask about pricing options and whether or not he uses a contract. If so, is there a time limit on the contract? Does he charge for overtime?
- Can you order extra tapes?
- Approximately how long after the wedding will your final video be ready?
One additional consideration when hiring a videographer is whether or not the wedding site will allow the ceremony to be taped. It is your responsibility to clear videotaping with the officiant before you sign any contract.
